The Shirley Hampton Koinonia Community Garden

The Shirley Hampton Koinonia Community Garden program was established to address food insecurity and beautify a neighborhood in South Memphis. This exciting initiative features a raised bed garden growing an array of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. We welcome volunteers from the neighborhood and interested organizations to join us in this inspiring project. The produce is always free to everyone to pick.

The initial goal of the program is to empower individuals with learning disabilities to recognize and build on their educational strengths. However, the broader aim is to establish a center equipped with a wide range of software tailored to address neuro-diverse learning needs such as autism and other learning disabilities. Children in the community with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) from their school will have access to appropriate learning tools at the center as well. Our aspiration is to empower every member of the community to achieve the highest level of education possible regardless of age.

Clinging Together By Cleaning Together

We established this program out of deep concern for the safety of children in our community. The idea of a child encountering hazardous items such as broken glass or syringes while playing is distressing. Currently, we have around 10 dedicated volunteers, with both adults and children, engaged in the cleanup efforts. However, our hope is to involve the entire community in this important initiative, including kids, teens, homeless individuals, and those dealing with substance abuse. By working together, we believe we can create a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone. The ultimate goal of this program is to enhance the beauty and safety of our community. Just envision vacant lots transformed by lush greenery instead of being marred by litter and debris, and residents finding joy in outdoor activities and fresh air. This vision is at the core of our program's mission.

Faith and Blue (P)ray (O)bey (P)lay Project

Due to the recent crime sprees in Memphis, we have made the decision to include the Memphis Police Department's Faith and Blue Weekend as one of our primary programs. We believe it is crucial for our community to gain a better understanding of our officers' duty to protect and serve. Our program needed to offer participants a face-to-face way to develop their own well-informed perspectives on law enforcement, independent of any negative portrayals told from criminals.

Our goal is to provide children in our community with new shoes, uniforms, haircuts for boys, hairdos for girls, hygiene supplies, and new backpacks filled with school supplies.  Our program's long-term goal is to one day afford to provide a computer for each household in our community to assist the children with their homework assignments as well as the caregivers with help with computer literacy.

Painting The Park

Welcome to the Painting of Gaston Park in Memphis, TN, a Playful Learning Landscape funded by ChangeX! By Way of Love Light and Truth Outreach Ministries transformed an underutilized walking trail into an engaging play area featuring games like four square, hopscotch, and copycat. This space allows children to learn colors, numbers, and essential social skills like sharing and taking turns. We chose Gaston Park for its support of a low-income community with many individuals who have learning disabilities, making it an impactful resource.
